Introducing Labdoor’s Precision Rankings

The supplement scoop represents the Labdoor’s Precision Rankings

At Labdoor, our mission is to bring you unbiased information about your supplements so whether you’re looking for multivitamins or protein, you have the facts to make informed decisions when you shop. We independently test, analyze, and rank products, and present that information to you for free. And we constantly review our algorithms and get feedback from our customers to improve how we work. With that in mind, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be adding a new set of Precision Rankings to labdoor.com as a way to see if we can test more products at greater speed, while still delivering information that helps you make smart choices.

How do Precision Rankings work?

We created our Precision Rankings based on the way people shop for supplements, and streamlined the testing and calculation process to answer the top questions you have about your options:

  1. Does the product have the amount of active ingredients it says it has?
  2. Is the product safe?

To answer these questions, we designed our Precision Rankings to capture label accuracy and purity information. Label accuracy is a measurement of what products claim they have in active ingredient levels versus the quantity of active ingredients we actually find. If, for example, a protein product claims to have 24 grams of protein per serving and we find out it only has half that amount, that product would get a poor label accuracy score. For purity, we’ll check if products pass key tests for harmful heavy metals and microorganisms, giving you a measure of how safe products are.

How are Precision Rankings different from Quality Rankings?

If you’ve used Labdoor before, you’ll recognize label accuracy and purity as components of our existing Quality Rankings. These rankings also take into account nutritional value, ingredient safety, and projected efficacy.

Over the years, we’ve given a lot of thought to how we can make our product better, while also being met with rising costs in testing, and more and more products entering the market each year with little to no regulation or oversight. We saw an opportunity in simplifying our testing and increasing the speed at which we test with what we’re now calling Precision Rankings.

How will Precision Rankings appear on Labdoor?

Protein will be the first product category on Labdoor where Precision Rankings will appear. But very soon, you’ll see the new rankings across all of our 36 current product categories. See the new Protein Precision Rankings.

We’ll be treating this initial rollout as a test and would love to hear from you about how you like them. Please reach out if you have any thoughts or suggestions.

Other updates

Along with introducing Precision Rankings, we’ll be making other updates to Labdoor that we believe will help you shop for supplements even more easily. These include:

  • Removing old and outdated products from rankings, making room for us to test and rank new products and formulas
  • Regularly adding new products to rankings across all of our categories, including products with Labdoor certifications that we independently test at the request of manufacturers
  • Adding more information to our website, including clear information about when we tested products and the exact batches we tested
  • Reinstating our Value Rankings, a way to gauge a product’s “bang for your buck” based on its concentration of active ingredients per dollar

These improvements are possible in part because of our new Precision Rankings. We hope that with these changes, our data continues to provide comprehensive, up-to-date information that serves your needs. Again, as you explore these new changes, let us know what you think. We’re @Labdoor on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can also reach us at contact@labdoor.com or message us directly here.
